Heidi McMillan Head Coach

My name is Heidi McMillan. My sister, Heather Maddox, and I grew up on Scottsdale Swim Team with our mom as director. They were some of the best summers of my life filled with great memories, too much chlorine, crazy rituals and life long friendships. I have a love for County Rec Swimming and what it teaches our kids, both in and out of the water. I swam at Scottsdale until age 12 and then at Walnut Creek Aquabears until I left for College. I attended Brigham Young University where I swam for 4 years, both before and after a mission. I have been a coach for over 20 years with both rec and USS experience. I have coached at very different rec teams. Some small, some large, some very competitive and some just starting out. I started at Antioch Delta Skimmers, then went to Valley Vista, Dana Hills and most recently Discovery Bay River Otters. The most rewarding part of coaching is seeing kids gain confidence and feel good about themselves as athletes and individuals. Upon graduating college, I became a full time coach with Walnut Creek Aquabears. I enjoy coaching all age groups and feel incredibly lucky to have worked alongside and be mentored by incredible coaches and people.

Nick Bazan

Nick started his swim career at the age of 4 and has kept the ball rolling ever since. Starting as a swimmer coach at 13, only increased his love for the sport, eventually leading him to swim for Terrapins year-round, and being captain of his high-school swim team. Nick never forgot how much fun he had swimming on a summer rec team, and how it helped him to fall in love with the sport of swimming. His goal is to create a similar environment for the team, so the kids can become better swimmers and have the best summer they can.

Christina McGowan

Hi, My name is Christina McGowan, and I am so excited to be a Coach here at Woodlands this year. I have been involved with swimming my whole life. I started swimming summers on Walnut Creek Aquabears at the age of 6, and went year round at the age of 9 to 18 years old. I swam at Carondelet High School, and then 2 years at DVC. During my swimming career I was blessed with being able to work with a lot of different coaches that really helped me while I was swimming, and I hope I can pass that on to the kids at Woodlands. I just moved back to the East Bay last year, and am very excited to get back to the swimming community. I can not wait for what this summer will bring, and thank you again for all the warm welcomes you have shown me. GO WOODLANDS!

Jacob Mohrland

Hi my name is Jacob Mohrland. I’ve been swimming for the last 13 years. I swam for Valley Vista Swim Team, and currently with WC Aqua Bears. I have always looked up to my older coaches and they have helped me enjoy the sport that I love. Over the last couple summers I’ve really enjoyed coaching younger kids, helping them improve their stoke, and having fun while they do it. Best part about rec swimming in my opinion is the fun atmosphere that is created by the coaches and older kids. I am really looking forward to coaching the 8& under woodlands swimmers this summer."

Zach Elian

Coach Zach coached Kermit's last year and we are so excited he is coaching swim team this year. He swims for Aquabears and DLS. He was a Northcoast Champion in the 100 free and pretty much a stud in every stroke. He committed to UCSD for 2023. He loves seeing kids improve and have fun. In his spare time he eats bananas, listens to house music and does lots of pushups.
